yes it is useful to cleanse the body of all the toxins periodically.that is the reason ancient sages of India prescribed it twice a month on the 11th day of each fortnight after full moon and new moon.you should fast for 24 hrs and not more.in between if you can afford not to drink water also it will be wonderful.you can start chanting the name of your favorite god so that you will get peace of mind too apart from health

Yes, when ever I feel heavy from too rich food, or wrong food that has upset my digestion, I fast and take some liquids. I get relief very quickly.
yes, but not to lose weight... it's more on a religious / culture sacrifice... but if you want to give your body a break, you are better off eating the right things at the right time than not eating at all.

that's what i always tell my friends who want to go on a diet: never, ever skip meal. that is the first rule. second rule is to eat right -- no junk, etc...

I fasted for a week once. I lost nearly 40lbs. - that was a surprise. I remember feeling really bad about half way into it - very lethargic, crampy in my stomach. I realized that I wasn't drinking nearly enough water but after not eating for a few days, it was hard to swallow even water. Then, when I finally did eat, I gained all the weight back - almost instantly. Obviously, I lost a lot of water weight.
