Why does my knee crack
It only occurs when I bend my knee 2/3 of the way to touching my quad/thigh with my leg. The "cracking" of the knee is not voluntarily really b/c it happens whenever i pass this degree of movement (its not like a choice like cracking your fingers). I'm only 19 years old and it only happens in my right knee. I ran cross country/track for high school and I have always been an active runner in some fashion, but its only with cross country/track that I ran alot on pavement. I think all the concrete/pavement running has messed up my knee, but I only averaged 3-7 miles a day in high school and today I only run 3 times a week. I also feel the need to "crack" it daily. I eat very healthy, stay in shape, and have no real medical problems.
Any reasons for why my knee is cracking? Is this harmful to me? If so, what can I can do to prevent it?
Answer:I don't know why,but I am 47 and my knee"s have cracked my whole life. It doesn't hurt anything.
I had the same thing happen to me only to my left knee. I don't believe there is anything you can do to stop it. I now have what looks like a little bump just under my knee cap. It's hard and feels like bone. It doesn't hurt or anything. Just looks like I have a big knee. The doctor told me it was from years of playing basketball, soccer and baseball. So I wouldn't worry about it if it doesn't hurt. One day, mine just stopped cracking all of the sudden.
