e) you could have a chicken bone or a spoon stuck in there...

f) or a massive tumour or hemorrhage could be causing your misery...

So drink some water.

You may have tonsillitis...When you look at the back of your throat do you see swelling on the side that hurts? Are your glands swollen, or do you have trouble swallowing? It's possible you may only have a couple of symptoms. I had it not too long ago, not a whole lot you can do except let your body fight it off in most cases. I took some pain relievers, gargled salt water, and used Chloraseptic to numb the pain. Unless you're having debilitating symptoms, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it doesn't pass or the pain doesn't lessen after a few days, you might go to the doctor to have it checked out.

There are several possible causes of your sore throat. If you have a slightly stuffy nose, particularly at night, you may have slept with an open mouth. That dried out your throat and would make it sore. You might have strep throat, although that usually isn't just on one side. The treatment is to drink lots of fluids. Cold stuff usually feels the best, frozen ice pops are also good. Some folks swear by tea with honey. Suck on hard candy or throat lozenges- the candy is cheaper and comes in better flavor choices. You can also get the throat spray with a numbing medication, but that only works for a little bit and usually numbs up your tongue as well. Try adding moisture to your air, via a humidifier, vaporizer or just a pot of water boiling on the stove. Drink, drink, drink. If you have a stuffy nose, take something to clear it up. Prop yourself up on pillows to sleep. Avoid milk and dairy products, they coat the throat and make you want to hack. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt you, but will not improve your throat. Aspirin or Tylenol for the discomfort helps a little, not anything fantastic though. You could also visit the doctor to eliminate strep as a cause. While the medication won't cure the throat, it will help speed things along a little and prevent anything worse from popping up.
