Why do firms that advertise help for the hard-of-hearing give a phone number as the contact point wh
Check any newspaper or indeed television adverts. the only reason that I bought a computer is - youv'e guessed it - I'm hard of hearing.
Answer:Because they don't think - like certain people I know: Quote: "mumble, mumble" me: "what did you say?" (shouting) "you heard!". Ummm, nope, I didn't. Or how about "I'm going out - listen for somebody at the door". Duh
Yes, I'm hard of hearing as well. And utterly sick of calling these places to be told that they have "Special Deals" for senior citizens.
Senior citizen indeed! Did they suddenly drop the age criteria for senior citizenship by about 30 years?
Exactly my point - they don't think - it seems that, according to them, people my age don't lose their hearing. Wrong. Trauma to the ear can cause hearing loss (THAT'S why I can't hear).
Thank you for the thought provoking session - I now know what my very first question is going to be.
Happy computing
probably because more people own a telephone than a computer with an internet connection. Also, the majority of those who have lost or losing their hearing are older, not necessarily owning a computer and using one everyday like the "below 60" crowd.
That's my guess.
Because often, as is the case with my grandma someone will be enquiring about that product on there behalf who is not hard of hearing. Also they often have enhanced telephone functions for the hard of hearing if they show the 'ear' symbol. The tv ads dont have time to show an address, as for the press ads, well there is no excuse there!
