Why am I sooo tired
I used to work night shift in the emergency department in my area, then I went to working daylight in the ER. I've been working daylight for 3 months now but EVERYDAY I feel like I havent gotten enough sleep! I go to bed around 10pm or 11pm and wake up at 530 in the morning to be at work at 630 in the morning. So, I get plenty of sleep. Every evening when I go home though, I'm exhausted and just pass out - wasting my evening. Now, I just found out I'm going back to working night shift this coming week and it will alternate, one week of night shift one week of daylight! This is going to totally mess up my sleeping pattern - and my relationship with my fiance - I'm always gonna be sleeping!! What can I do to get some energy?
Answer:I suggest you look at improving the quality of your sleep. Even though you may getting the recommended time in bed, you may be a light sleeper. I find if I can have a deep sleep for 6-8 hours I will feel great but if I sleep lightly for upto 10hrs I feel tired. Light sleepers will be awoken alot easier than deep sleepers. I'm not an expert on this but I think you can improve your sleep by changing your diet, reducing stress, make bed more comfortable etc.
I Have heard stories of some people adapting their bodies over time so they have approx. 1-3 hrs of deep sleep that would be the equivalent of 8hrs normal sleep. In this time they are so deeply asleep that they cannot be awoken.
you know that is hard i did that for a time and there is no quick answer for that just try to sleep

Obviously you need more sleep. Try going to bed around 9pm, it may sound early to you....I go to bed at that time then Im up as early as 4:30 AM & at work by 6AM....sounds like your burned out... maybe what your eating has to do with how tired you are...stay away from junk food...carbs....while your in ER have your blood sugar checked.
