While i was getting a knife out of my knife draw i stabbed my middle finger
It went in deep and i think it hit bone, because i had to really pull to get it out. The cut wasnt really that big but i cleaned it and bandged 2 fingers together so i would remember not to use it untill it healed. Any way its been a week and my finger looks excellent but it really hurts alot all around the top joint. Can u get infections in your bones? and how many years does a tetnus shot last? and can you get a tetnus shot if you think you might be pregnant?
Answer:I'm sure the cut caused nerve damage that can take up to a year to heal (fingers are slow healers). I fell on ice and just bent/twisted a finger and it took a year to heal.
When to seek medical advice on cuts/punctures:
See your doctor to obtain a tetanus booster shot if you have a deep or dirty wound and you haven't had a booster shot within the past five years or aren't sure of your vaccination status. Or see your doctor about a tetanus booster for any wound if you haven't had a booster shot within the past 10 years.
Taking care of a wound to prevent you from contracting tetanus:
Keep the wound clean. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Clean the wound and the area around it with soap and a washcloth. If debris is embedded in a wound, see your doctor.
Consider the source. Puncture wounds or other deep cuts, animal bites or particularly dirty wounds may put you at increased risk of tetanus infection.
Call your doctor if the wound is deep and dirty, and particularly if you're unsure of your immunization status. Your doctor may need to clean the wound, prescribe an antibiotic and give you a booster shot of the tetanus toxoid vaccine. If you've previously been immunized, your body should quickly make the needed antibodies to protect you against tetanus.
