I eat lunch at 11:00 every morning. If I don't eat anything until after 3:00 I get a terrible headache that doesn't go away until I sleep it off at night. Even if I do eat something, the headache doesn't get any better. I have tried Acetomenophin and Ibuprophen and neither provide any relief at all. I have talked to my doctor about this and he doesn't know what to do. What type of headache is this and what can I take to get rid of it? Serious answers only, please.

Have you tried Aleve? It is the OTC form of Naproxen or Naprosyn (same thing). Naproxen was prescribed for my headaches (mixed type) but the OTC Aleve works just as well. Tylenol or Motrin does NOTHING for my headaches. Vicodin does not help either.

I get the same headache when I don't eat at the right time and it does not go away. Those are the worst.

If your doctor won't help, see a new doctor. With bad headaches they should always give you a CT or MRI if you hadn't had one in awhile. You can also see a neurologist for headaches.

The headaches may be related to low blood sugar. If you only get them when you've gone without food all day, then the simplest thing to do is to always eat something before 3:00. You should really eat something for breakfast--doesn't have to be a lot, just a granola bar or something like that.

Also, if you frequently have to skip lunch, your work may be very stressful. Tension could have a lot to do with it. And they're pretty hard to get rid of and stay with you until after you've had a good night's sleep. I think the best thing you could do is to avoid the headaches by eating lunch every day. Even if you can't do the sit down thing, eat a health bar or fruit that you can carry to work with you. Good luck.

I'm not a health professional of any kind but you have described the exact type of headache and scenario my father use to get. His were cause by low blood sugar because he was a Type ll diabetic.
