What is the difference between signs and symptons
Hi I am Kelley and have been a nurse for 20 years, now to answer your question:
Signs are actually symptoms too but they are things that can be "seen", such as, a rash, swelling, redness or even abnormal lab values, in the medical profession these things are called "objective"; symptoms, on the other hand, are "subjective" meaning that the person feels things that cannot necessarily be seen, such as, nausea, dizziness, chest pain, etc. I hope this was somewhat helpful.
Signs are visible to others, like a rash, redness in your face, etc.
Symptoms are what you have to mention, like your stomach hurts, because it can't be seen to be in pain by looking at it.
signs are objective-measurable temp, pulse, heart rate ect.
symptoms are subjective what the patient tells you they feel as in pain, heart palpatations, anxiety, ect.
Signs are objective things that can be observed and measured by a clinician. Things such as vital signs, labs, a rash, ejection fraction, response to treatment.
Symptoms are subjective things that are experienced and described by a patient. Things such as pain, difficulty breathing, pruritis, sees black spots before the eyes.
Signs are objective. Symptoms are subjective.
Signs are those which are elicited on clinical examination. Symptoms are those which are described by the patient or his attendants.
