What is hayfever and what can be done about it
You might just suffer with itchy eyes or it might be you sneeze constantly.
I have had allergic rhinitus (all year) for about 20 years but have only just been offered a test to confirm it.
The test was simple and involved putting drops on my arm of substances such as trees, pollen grass etc. The results were amazing and I was surprised what i was actually allergic to rather than what I assumed.
All doctors can refer you for this test and I would recommend it. It will also determine what treatment you require be it antihistamines, sprays or eye drops.
For more detailed info see the site below.
Hay fever is an allergy to pollen from trees, bushes, and plants. Hay fever is ,usually, characterised by ichy, watery, burning eyes, itchy throat, sneezing, runny nose, congested sinuses, etc.
There a a lot of different kinds of pollen. Oak, Maple, Sweetgum, Grass, Ragweed, Ash, Aspen, Cedar, just to name a few.
An allergist can test you and find out which pollen you are allergic, to. Some regular doctors can do this, too.
Usually, you can take an antihistimine like Benedryl or one of the second generation antihistimines like Claritin or Singulair
during pollen season and be relatively comfortable.
Sometimes, they can do allergy shots which are supposed to help your body desensitize itself.
Other than that the best is to avoid pollen as much as possible.
Stay inside with AC on and windows and doors closed, as much as possible. Change your AC filter once a week.
