Coagulase is an enzyme produced by certain species of Staphyloccous. All Staphylococcus COULD cause infections, but the coagulase positive strains are the ones most associated with infections. MRSA or methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus is one that is all over the news these days.
The coagulase test is used in Stapholococcus aureus. If the organism clots serum it is pathogenic.
