If it is not strep, then drink lots of hot liquids -- chicken broth, tea. Gargle with salt water. Sleep with a steam humidifier to keep membranes in the throat moist. Take ibuprophen or acetominiphen.
And wait.
Depends on the infection. For a simple sore throat you can use throat losenges, or put a teaspoon of honey in a cup of tea and drink up. Some throat infections like strep require antibiotics. If you're not sure, see your doctor.
