I've found a word 'referrals' in some articles on medical (health) care including hospice services, I would guess, but it's hard to find the exact meaning..

A 'referral" is required from one doctor for you to see another. In our worthless healthcare system, you have to get a referral many times from your primary care provider to see, for example, a neurologist. It's a worthless waste of time, and it decreases people's access to necessary health care providers.

Say you're having headaches, and you want to see a neurologist. With some insurance plans, you can't just call up the neurologist and make an appointment. YOu first have to get a "referral" from your primary doc to see the specialist. This can take up to 6 weeks...and that's a crime in and of itself. It actually only takes about 10 minutes. 5 minutes to fill out the referral form and 5 minutes to fax it to the doctor you want to see.

means: wait in line and get confused. I am sorry, I am so confused with the system. I waited for a long time for a referral and when it finally happened, a nurse took my symptoms and reported to the Doctor specialist. I ended up confused and never saw the Doctor. The nurse, had no idea of what she was talking about.
