What connection is there between autoimmune disorders and positive blood types

for instance my son is 14 and has type 1 diabetes. his blood type is O positive. did his blood type being positive make him more likely to develope an autoimmune disease?

Answer:

blood type has nothing to do with disease.

Although not much is known about the causes of autoimmune diseases for certian, doctors believe that it is triggered by factors such as environment toxins, viruses, and certain medications and usually it is hereditary.

Autoimmunity is related more to the antibodies in the blood turning against the natural body cells- it mistakes healthy cells for infections, foreign cells etc and destroys them. It's more likely to be genetically predisposed rather than a result of O positive blood.

blood type and diabetes have nothing connected. we might tend to say that people with Rh positive are more likely to get diabetes because 85% of all population is Rh positive. auto immune diseases are caused by environmental issues which probally 'tick the signal' and activate/deactivate the genes.
