What choices do I have as an self diagnosed ADD 16 year old
My names Brandee and as i have mentioned, I am 16 years of age. In the past I have been clinically diagnosed with depression but i did not wish to be called "the emo kid" so i kind of faked a recovery. However, I started falling behind in my school and became depressed saying things like "I bet a person that was NORMAL could do this work." My friend recently heard me and gave me an adderall pill , telling me it would help me out with my homework and maybe my depression. I debated using it for QUITE awhile (I strongly disagree with the misuse of prescription drugs) but one day i was so depressed I took the pill (i thought "if this kills me, ill be fine with it."). It didnt make me feel any different or anything, so i was upset. I started doing my hw alittle later and i realised how things made sense to me and things werent so hard, so after doing a few trials of math hw (2 days witrh adderall, 2 days without) I realised I might have ADD. My question is.. what should I do?
Answer:Talk to your parents about your depression and innability to study and say that it is effecting you a lot. Ask if you can go to a doctor and be checked out. If not, talk with your guidence counseller at school and they can help you. You shouldn`t be ashamed with your depression, a great deal of teens suffer from it and it can be helped.
Go see a psychiatrist. You cannot diagnosis yourself unless you are a doctor (and even then it is tricky). Also, stop taking your friend's medication. Adderall should only be used under the supervision of a doctor.
I agree that you should stop taking the pills. DEFINATELY go to a doctor. You can't diagnose yourself correctly. You are most likely still depressed and may also have ADD. Go to a professional so you can find out what you really have, and can get the correct treatment for it.
Good luck
It is not a wise idea to self diagnose. I suggest you go to your doctor and tell him exactly what you described above and let the professional work on a diagnosis and treatment. Good luck - don't lose heart and no more meds from friends.
