What chance does a woman have, to be hiv aids negative when the husband daid off it

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:37:46

am about to start a relationship with a woman who her husband daid ten yrs ago, she's to the hospital for test few times and every time she comes out negative, she even had a chiled few yrs after the death of her husband.am not sure about it now i need some information before i comit myself

Answer:

If she tested negative 6months to a one year after the last contact with an HIV + person..there is practically NO chance of her having HIV. The sensitivity of detecting HIV+ (antibodies in the blood) is 99.5%.

I believe you are safe since she tested herself 'few" times and 10 years have elapsed.

**PS.Ask her if she specifically tested for Viral load and CD4 count. These levels are usually checked if someone is HIV+!

Good luck.

If she's been to the doc and she's clear, then I would think she's okay. Maybe make an appt. with your doc to talk about it. I wouldn't trust the answers on here - we're not doctors. Your doctor should be able to answer all your questions.
risky very risky i would not do it sorry
ask her to do another test and be present when she gets the results, that way, you will hear it first hand from a trained professional, and voice any concerns to the doctor, to put your mind at ease. If she really cares about you and your concerns, she won't mind... as long as you are being resonable. It is highly possible to not be infected even though a spouse is infected.
Well, realistically there is always going to be a risk. You need to make a mature decision and weigh every option. However, if you choose not to protect yourself every time you are intimate, then you need to be realistic with yourself and others about possibly being infected in the future. Think of who else will suffer from every decision you make. This is a lofty decision that needs to be made with care.
