What causes temporary blindness in one eye

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:37:50

could it be the symptom to something major?

Answer:

If you mean the vision in one eye goes dim or blacks out painlessly, that's a condition called amaurosis fugax. Call your doctor NOW! This needs to be checked out by a physician, as it usually a harbinger of something bad . e.g. stroke. This could of course lead to permanent loss of vision, function or even death! There are benign causes such as migraines, but if you're uncertain, don't take chances.

In addition to a thorough eye exam, your doctor can best determine the workup that you need based on factors such as age, sex, and co-existing health conditions.

could be nuerological, might be a mild stroke, could be glaucoma, could be a nasty cadirac, go to your optimologist, get some eye drops before you need the glass eye.
ask yourself if you've recently recieved a blunt force trauma to that eye!

If yes it was the hammer that caused the blindness, if not with nothing to go on, i'd guess - conjunctivitis!

Buff.
