There are several different types of pneumonia. In most cases the lungs will have fluid/phlegm/secretions in them. This will decrease the amount of oxygen that gets into the bloodstream. All the cells in the body need oxygen. So if you don't die from the pneumonia and its not treated, it will affect all the organs and parts of your body by starving them of needed oxygen.

first the lungs. they will start to collect fluid (water ) in them and when you breath you kinda gurrgle, next if not treated is plurecy. a bacteria colony devevopes between the outer layer of the lung and the tissue sack around the lung. you can feel a scraping as you breath. NOW if you have any of these symptoms get to a doc. if left you can die (see the flu epidemic in early 1900's. 20 million died in the USA, why? no anti biotics in those days. also in europe i think the death rate was 50 million...the bacteria does not care and will kill indescriminatly) the saying i really like and often use when i teach is..."if you think an education is expensive..try ignorance"!
