Very Unusual Strep Virus Question
My son - 25 - has a rash all over his back and arms. He went to the doctor and she said it was strep related. Has anyone ever heard that before? Also what is weird about this is that his co-workers have had strep this last couple weeks. Did they give him the strep rash or did he give them the strep. What are some other strep related conditions? Any and all questions will be appreciated.
Answer:Yes, it's more than likely he caught it from his co-workers. Everyone's body reacts different to his - it's just that his maniftested into a rash. Strep can affect anywhere there's a way to get into the body. Strep throat is very common when strep grows in the throat. There's Strep B that can grow in the vagina. Strep can grow in the blood stream, it can affect wounds...the list is endless.
It's easily treated with the appropriate antibiotics. Tell him not to scratch the rash and to wash his hands EVERY TIME he touches his skin so that he doesn't spread it further and possibly get it in his eyes.
Yes it is possible to get strep on your body. I had it happen to be twice when I was growing up. Both times it broke out on my face and the first time it happened wound me up in the hospital for five days. It swelled my face up and madded one of my eyes shut. The second time I had it was a year later but it wasn't as severe. I had braces on my teeth at the time and the Dr. said that it was getting into the sore places in my mouth from the braces and breaking out on my face. After the second break out I've never had happen to me again.
BTW tell him not to take HOT showers. If you take hot showers and git the strep hot it makes it worse. When I had it the first time around I was taking a hot shower and the hot water felt good on it, but by morning it made it worst than before. So be careful and try not to mess w/ it anymore than need be.
I've gotten streppe and the rash before. Unless his co-worker was kissing on him or sharing drinks it's not air born and so it wouldn't be a finger pointing game.
Streppe sucks but it happens.
