I just got diagnosed. Any tips to help me deal with pain and medication? Much appriciated!!

Answer:

I have it too, I was diagnosed with it during my first semester of college. The medication they have for it now is much better than even 10 years ago, and there is a lot of research going into finding new ways to let people like us live normal lives.

I don't know what medication your taking, but a lot of people go through a few until they find one that really keeps them in remission.

If you do a search on yahoo or any search engine for colitis support forums you'll find some that are pretty good and can answer your questions and help you cope with some of the issues affecting colitis sufferers.

My own tip is to keep a food journal at first, so you can see how what you eat affects your colitis. Some doctors say that food has nothing to do with it, but it my experience it is extremely important to eat the right foods. Only trial and error can tell you what works for your body.

I've had success using fish and flaxseed oil supplements, and other people have said that kefir and yogurt helps them.

You shouldn't be in pain unless it's flaring up, but during a flare the best pain med I've found is hydrocodone.
