Tuberculosis or allergies
About 4 years ago a friend of mine had a severe cough. I soon got it too.
I was constantly choking to the point of almost passing out, but it was a dry cough with only a tiny little bit of yellow mucous. I had fever&chills, my face and neck would be burning hot & flushed. I had night sweats. When I finially went to the doctor, I had just developed chickpox, so he took very little notice of the cough. I had very bad fatigue, but put that down to an earlier bout of glandular fever.
Now four years later I still have the cough. I have allergies&the cough has been put down to Post Nasal Drip. I am recieving therapy for the allergies.
I am concerned because I only got this cough AFTER I caught that infection from my friend&I still get the fever and sometimes night sweats. I am pretty sure you dont get those things with allergies.
So I am worried. Does this sound like TB? I would really like to hear from people who have had it, and any others with an informed opinion
Answer:One sign of TB that you would not have with allergies is night sweats . Other symptoms of TB that you would have with allergies are:
Nausea / weakness / fatigue
Rapid weight loss
Fever
Chest pain
Hemoptysis (spiting up blood)
The best way to know is to get a PPD done. This is a test for TB. They will inject a small amount of liquid under your skin on one day. A few days later a Dr. or their nurse will check it. A positive test will indicate TB. Then a chest Xray may be done. My advice is to go see a doctor and ask about TB and a PPD test.
