Hello.. I have put a few questions about the same thing you just did .. my dad is having his surgery May 7.. and I too, am wondering how to prepare for his arrival home..after the 2 week stay in the hospital..

Since you are now going through it, if there is any advice you can give me (daughter)..I would appreciate it.. My dad has stairs in the house, so I am not even sure if he will be able to do those, though some people say he should be ok with them..

When I came home from the hospital 5 days after surgery for colon cancer, I wasn't limited on what i could eat. I was told to eat anything I wanted. For others, they may be on a soft food diet. i did not have a colostomy, so it may be different if he does.

Stairs shouldn't be a problem. He will tire easily and need rest still, just like after any type of major surgery.
