Thyroid and taking Iodine
If you have low thyroid and are on Iodine supplements. Can you take too much and gain weight? or lose weight?
Answer:Yes and No. It really depends on the person. Taking an iodine supplement when you don't need it could cause more harm than good. You could have your iodine levels checked or do an iodine patch test. JUstgoogle iodine patch test and it will explain the test. I'm hypothyroid and I showed low on the iodine patch test, so I've been taking a little bit of iodine in a supplement for thyroid containing iodine, zinc, elenium, lytrosine, etc. I also take a very small amount of kelp, but I know I am low on iodine because I've done the patch test about 4-5 times.
About weight, it probably will not make any diffrence in your weight. It's more important to have your TSH under 2.0 (around 1.0) if on T4 and your FT4 & FT3 high in range if you are on T4/T3.
