Thick mucus phlegm in throat
I do not have a cold or flu. For years I am always clearing my throat, with what is thick, strngy mucus or phlegm. It wakes me up multiple times per night with a chocking sensation. What can cause this? The mucus is clear, not from an infection, but almost always there. It balls up in my throat and if i grab it with my fingers is comes out in a ball with long sticky stringy stuff. Nasty I know. Is it allergies, asthma? Any ideas?
Answer:Do you smoke? It might be Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. I have it and deal with similar issues. Drinking plenty of fluids will help to keep it thinned out.
Also as long as it is clear you shouldn't have to worry about any infections. But if it start to go from a lite yellow to a nasty green see a doctor ASAP.
I have recently been diagnosed with COPD and asthma. I also have this problem, its annoying and embarrassing, from what I have read and been told this is common in these kind of respiratory problems. Have you been to a Dr.? Smoke? Trouble breathing, or wheezing? Don't let it go its worth a trip to find out.
