The eye doctor said I have S L K Cells growing on my eye
My eyes are dry and they feel like something is in them. The right eye is the worst. It is painful. I have tried antibotics and eye drops, but the Cornea specalist isn't sure what it is. Do you know what S L K or S L K ?
Answer:SLK stands for superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis. This translates to an inflammation of the upper portion of the cornea (clear part of eye) and the thin layer of cells that cover the inside of your lids and the white part of your eye (the conjunctiva). I think the best treatment is probably a steriod eye drop. This type of irritation can sometimes be caused by contact lens wear. If you wear contacts, you may want to stop for a week or so and see what happens. I would suggest going to an Optometrist, they see this sort of thing very often. Best of Luck!
Is your doctor an Ophthalmologist? This is an MD who specializes in eyes. Is he board-certified (takes a test and passes his boards)? He'll have the certificate on the wall in his office if he is. If he doesn't know, it's a good idea to ask for a second opinion.
SLK doesn't remind me of anything I've heard of.
If the eye is painful, you need to learn why; glaucoma is high pressure in the eyeball that is painful and can cause blindness. Keep after your doctor or get a second opinion. You only have one pair of eyes.
