My daughter was recently diagnosed with thalasemmia minor but she has a very enlarged spleen due to this!! I was wondering if anyone else out there may have the thalasemmia minor with an enlarged spleen? The doctor told me that it was rare to have with the minor. I'm new to this whole disease and very concerned for my daughter's future so I'm just trying to get some research done on the disease.
Answer:See www.intellihealth. In this case the spleen is acting like the bone marrow trying to compensate for the anemia. I have seen this fairly often in various anemias.
