Teenager having gall bladder surgery

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:35:46

Can you tell me if you know the recovery time and hospitilization time for a gall bladder surgery? Would it be different for a child (teen) then adult? My daughters case isn't emergency but close so we have SOME leeway with scheduling but are concerned about her finals. I've researched and asked the GP but there's conflicting stuff everwhere?

Anybody "been there" and wanna share?

Answer:

Recovery from laparoscopic surgery is typically quick - about 8-10 hours before you can go home. If it is open surgery, laparotomy, plan to spend at least 3 days in the hospital.

Be warned that complications are relatively frequent (particularly bile leaks) and may require additional hospital time within a few days after the surgery.

I'm an adult, had my gall bladder out laparoscipally. I had it done in the morning and went home at night a little sore.
I had laproscope surgery for gall bladder removal. I went home the next morning and felt 100% by the end of the week.
