I am having surgery in 2 weeks. The DR has me on extra iron (ferrous sulfate). Does tea act as an iron blocker?
Answer:Yes. The tannins in tea inhibit iron absorption. It is best to avoid tea for at least an hour after taking your iron supplement. Also, vitamin C can aid the absorption of iron so a glass of orange juice with your iron tablet will help you absorb more.
Best wishes.
what the Dr put you on will help to keep oxygen in the blood so your surgery will go well
YES, I AM IRON DEFF. ANEMIC. I HAVE TO HAVE IRON TRANSFUSION'S AND I AM TOLD BY MY ONCOLOGIST TO NOT DRINK TEA OF ANY KIND. TEA EFFECTS THE IRON BINDING. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SURG.
