Taking humalog in public/at work

I'm type I, and just started taking humalog at ever meal. Right now for breakfast and lunch I run to the bathroom stall to take my shot. Does anyone have any advice for taking shots at work?

Answer:

Choose your injection site based on the clothing you are wearing. If you can get to your abdomen more easily by untucking or unbuttoning a button, do that. You will find that you are pretty quick about pulling up the dose, finding a spot and taking the injection.

You *should* let a few co-workers know that you are a diabetic, if you haven't already. Provide the receptionist or your boss a short list of symptoms of low sugar, and emergency phone numbers.

I once 'fell asleep' in a meeting, it was really low sugar. Apparently, some people were giggling, until the one who recognized the symptoms took control and had someone run for a juice. Had he not known, I would have been pretty embarassed. As it was, people realized that I have a medical condition that I keep under control pretty well, but occasionally slip if the meeting is long, or someone brought donuts that I wasn't planning for.

Oh, and avoid the bathroom -- your desk is probably cleaner, especially if you wipe it off regularly. Keep a canister of disinfectant wipes in your desk, because you probably eat there frequently, too.

IT MAY BE CLEANER AND MUCH LESS HASSLE JUST TO TAKE YOUR SHOT AT YOUR WORKSTATION. NO LONG AS YOUR NOT IT THE PUBLIC PATH , AS QUICKLY AS IT CAN BE DONE , IT SHOULD NOT PRESENT ANY PROBLEMS TO ANYONE. TRY TO REMEMBER NOT TO WAIT TOO LONG , IT NEEDS TO GET IN YOU FOR AT LEAST TWENTY MINUTES BEFORE YOU EAT!
If you're using the "pen" it shouldn't be too difficult to just keep it in your pocket and take your shot at your desk/station. If you have to draw the insulin into a needle just find a small space somewhere. If you don't want people to watch, then try your car if you don't want to go to the bathroom.
