Symtoms of an ear infection

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:36:34

My 12 year old daughter complained of her ear hurting this morning, so I gave her some eardrops. She said it didn't work, and now she says it still hurts. I am taking her to the doctor tomorrow, but do you think this is an ear infection? She says it hurts worse when she burps, or coughs. So, what do you think? If it is an ear infection, how long should I keep her home from school? Thanks for your help.

Answer:

Aw, ear infections hurt. I hope your daughter feels better. Typically a day or two after an antibodic is administered before she can go back to school. If it is an ear infection. It could just be a blockage in her ear.

She probably has blockage in the inner ear which can cause it to hurt when any pressure is applied in that area through burping or coughing. Since you are taking her to the doctor, I'd wait and see what they recommend.

When my ear gets clogged that way, I take Claritin D to open it before an infection sets. I also take 8 to 10 Garlic capsules a day fro several days to sidestep infections, which has worked well so far for me. Be sure you get the capsules because the tablets can be nasty tasting. If there is a bad infection, she will have a yellow discharge with a sour smell to it but hopefully you are catching this early on before infection sets in.

I think she has a cold her ear is popping when she something burps and stuff thats not an ear infection an ear infection is when too much wind is in your wear and it hurts all day
