Sudden guinea pig allergies

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:36:41

This January, I got a guinea pig for my family and it is well-loved. After two weeks at home, I went back to college for the school year. However, whenever I came back to visit my family about once a month, I would sneeze and have slight trouble breathing whenever I played with my guinea pig. When I went over to my friend's house, I had similar reactions to her guinea pig, too.

Is it possible to suddenly grow an allergy? If so, is it possible I will get over it? Before I got my guinea pig, I had visited my friend's house several times and even babysat her pig for a week, and I never had any allergic reactions. I also had no problems when I got my pig in January.

Answer:

Unfortunately it could be possible. Spend the time and money to see an allergist to get a test if you want to try hard to keep your guinea pig around you. Hopefully it will not be just guinea pigs you are allergic to. It is allergy season, it could be pollen that is just everywhere, Good luck. If you do have guinea pig allergies just wash your hands more and take antihistamine if it bugs you. Ask an alergist.

It is a psychological problem. Before January you did not had the symptoms, but only afterwords. Stay away from the pigs for some time, mean while try to learn more about the Guinea pigs, how they grow, their eating habits, etc., I think some time in December or January, you must have come across of, how they are treated when testing a new drug, and their pathetic condition. You can set right your self, build a positive, thinking. Good luck.
