Strep rash, alergic reactionADVISE
My son (almost 2) has had a funky blotchy rahs on his legs since March. It started on his legs, arms, back...But now basicly just his legs, his arms are still papery feeling though. My daughter had strep but he tested neg for it, But still gave him meds, He has been given a few different antibitoics, meds, creams, ontiments, excema cream...And nothing..He has seen a few of the drs at the office. Seom days the blotchys get faded where it looks like its getting better but then will flare up again. He is fine and happy and no other symtoms. A dermatoligist cant see him for months, Im tired of his Drs nothing knowing what it is, and it not clearing up. Im afraid if he will get scars from it. Should I take him to the Childrens Hospial here for more info?
Answer:Welcome to my world - I feel for you have him retested for strep.
My dd whom I am taking now to the DMD had strep (neg at first) then couldn't walk, took a week to recover, only to have it spread to her gums/bone and lost a tooth (no cavity) last week.
It's a nasty strain.
YES take him to the ER at the childrens best bet.
Sadly to wait will be bad but you will get help.
The rash could be caused from a clothing detergent. My daughter had rashes crop from laundry detergent. Try a brand that has no dyes or perfumes in it and make sure that he bathes in a natural glycerin soap.
There is a possibility that it is a food allergy too. Write down what he eats at every meal and observe the rash to see if it gets any better.
Are there any pets that rub up against his bare legs? Animals carry a lot of stuff on their fur whether it be poison oak, dander or dirt. Also make sure that other surfaces in the house don't have irritating cleaning products left on them, such as Carpet Fresh.
Good luck.
