You should consider joining this withdrawal support group which offers support to those wishing to stop taking prescription sleep aids or day time tranquillisers. Here is the link to the web site http://www.non-benzodiazepines.org.uk...

You can visit their forum on that web site and register an account.

A lot of people find that they get day time anxiety and clouded thinking and other symptoms as day time withdrawal symptoms from sleep aids. I found that myself so if you are experiencing any symptoms like that then your sleep aids "might" be the cause.

If you're like me, then you should only be on them for about a month. I was diagnosed with insomnia when I was 15. The doctor put me on ambien 10mg for about 2 weeks, then ambien 5mg for 2 weeks. I had to take one every night for that whole month and go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time every day. Weekdays and weekends. It sucked and pretty much ruined my weekend social life. lol. But, it did help for a while. After I got off the pills I was able to sleep and I was on a pattern for a while. When summer rolled around I screwed it all up again. And it's never really fully gone away. From then til now I've always had trouble sleeping. Almost 5 years later, my insomnia is still annoying me and messing with my school. I'm ready to go back to the doctor because OTC sleep aids don't knock me out like ambien did. I've even tried Niquill, but that doesn't help anymore either. They just make me tired, but not tired enough to fall asleep. No matter how tired I get at night, my mind starts racing once the lights are out and my head hits the pillow. My head is overwhelmed with a million incoherent thoughts. I can't just concentrate on one. I can lay there for hours on end and not fall asleep no matter what. If I get up and turn the lights on and read or study, I start to get tired again. Then when I go back to bed it's the same ol' process over and over and over... I get so tired during the day I have a hard time concentrating or doing anything. I can't stay motivated to keep up with my studies anymore. But once night rolls around, I'm wide awake. I have finals all this week, but I can't sit down and force myself to study. It's almost like I'm too tired to care. I'm gonna be keeping myself awake all week with coffee and chocolate covered coffee beans. But anyways.good luck with the ambien and I hope you have better luck in the long run than I had!
i am pretty against all drugs, especially for any length of time, because ALL DRUGs have side effects. period. My friend had insomnia from the time i met her in kindergarten. Her parents became reps for NIKKEN and gave her a mattress with the magnets in it. Her pillow, blanket, everything is high tech. she sleeps like a baby.
From a medical perspective, I would say that sleep aids should be used with caution because of the need to continually increase the amount... I would say for no more than a two month span... And then decreased under the supervision of a doctor.. Addiction to sleep aids occur too easily! Good Luck.
