Stop sneezing & nasal congestion

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:36:46

I have severe nasal congestion to where if I close my mouth I can't breathe at all & also keep sneezing. I have been sneezing constantly (atleast once every 5 minutes) for about 24 hours. I have already taken some OTC medicine to no avail. Any suggestions what I can do as I'm congested so badly & sneezing so constantly I can't begin to go to bed, leave the house or do anything. It is probably allergies as I was diagnosed as having real bad allergies about 6 years ago & being allergic to just about everything. Maybe once every year or two I have an outbreak like this. I used to be on allergy medication & shots, however haven't been able to do either of them for the past 4 years or so do to no medical insurance of any kind.

Answer:

buy some nasanex or an over the counter decongestant

What decongestant did you get? Try pseudoefedrine (sp?) - it's a highly regulated drug though, and you will have to give your details to the pharmacist. I'm not sure if it's a prescription medicine for you as I don't know where you are - in Australia it is a pharmacist only medicine.

Anyway it does work, for congestion and allergies and hayfever.

All that you have is ALLERGIC RHINITIS.

For immediate relief, you can use Xylometazoline nasal drops 3-4 times a day. For long term relief, there are 2 options. One is to use a mild topical steroid nasal spray (e.g. Mometasone nasal spray twice daily for 8 weeks) especially during seasons when your problem is worse. Second option is to use "Neti" therapy.
