Steroid Weight Gain - How long before it goes away
How long does the steroid weight gain last after getting off of them? (Corticosteroids)?? Any tricks for getting rid of it quicker?
Answer:It really depends on your dose and duration. If you were taking over 10 mg of prednisone for longer Thant two weeks it will take longer. 10mg and less is called substitute dosage, so most of the weight if you took under 10mg is water weight that will quickly go away, usually within 2-3 weeks. If you were on high dose steroid treatment and have successfully tapered down off of it, then your heading in the right direction. I was on high dose 50mg prednisone for 60 days. I gained 28 pounds in these 60 days. I lost all my weight in 45 days, with these few adjustments. I walked 30 minutes twice a day, and maintained a 1,200 calorie diet. I have maintained my normal weight for the last 6 months and am now consuming 1,600 calories a day, so life is back to normal, and yours will be back to normal soon to!
Most of the weight is water retension, so dry yourself out and you will lose it fast. Sometimes it can take about 6 weeks.
depends on how long you were on them but your weight should re regulate itself in 30 to 60 days.
Dee it a very common problem just take it slow and eat good foods and try walking everyday ...kara
Unfortunately the weight gain comes off like any other, diet and exersize. Kinda like pregnancy wieght gain, some will happen but the rest you have to work for! I'm still carring about 50 extra pounds from steroids, and its been several years. I've lost some but its diet and hard work.
