Spontaneous, temporary itching on arms and legs accompanied by bumps

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:36:48

This occurs largely on my arms and legs, but also on the torso. It can happen at any time but with a prevalence at night. Because of this I initially had my apartment sprayed for bedbugs; this did not resolve the problem.

Initially, you can't see anything, but I can feel a slight raising of the skin at the itch site. Scratching seems to exacerbate it to the point where small bumps appear. This goes away within 15-30 minutes. Moisturizing does not help.

People I've lived in close contact with do not have this problem, which makes me think it's not an infectious condition. I don't have any known allergies but I've never been tested - if anything it would be due to my sheets or clothes?

People just tell me to moisturize but it hasn't helped. Any other suggestions on what it might be?

Answer:

i'm not a medical type of person but my friend has this thing on her arms where they get itchy. Its name means 'scaly skin' but i can't remember what its called. You should talk to a dermatologist.

You could be allergic to your laundry soap or fibers in the sheets or mattress.

Itching is causing further inflammation & possibly introducing pathogens...

These can be caused by a food allergy or mineral deficiency.

It may be helpful to get tested for food allergies. Some specific supplements may also help, especially Folic Acid, B Vitamins, and Magnesium.
