Spontaneous pneumothorax

I had this about 2 weeks ago. happened in the middle of the night while sleeping. slightly collapsed then came right straight away then left with pain on left side for about 4 or 5 days..
doctors say it was only minor and not too worried about it - didnt ask me to follow up after it happened or anything just said to cut back on smoking which i have been.
it happened again yesterday 2 weeks exactly to the day. It was in the afternoon after work when it happened. i was picking up bits of rubbish from a box the puppy had chewed in the garage. i was hot after running around at shops and riding the motorbike home from work and it was stuffy in the garage and was rushing, stretching to reach bits when it hit. weirdest feeling like going to pass out or have stood up too fast then stabbing pain
Doctor doesnt seemed to concerned again as i am not short of breath or coughing anything up.
Should i be concerned or just wait to see if happens again and then freak out?!!
Answer:I would go back to the doctor...
People do not usually develop spontaneous pneumothoracies unless there is something more troubling occurring... I would ask doctor to do some tests to see if you have Marfan's Syndrome http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/marfan_synd... That is the only way that I know of, that can cause you to develop a spontaneous pneumothorax and it is a pretty serious disorder.
So go back to your doctor and tell them something is just not right. If they are not willing to work with you, find another doctor!

Get a second opinion from another Doc and request a CT scan or X-ray. If there's pain, it's worth attention. My uncle had a similar incident less than a year a go and he is a chronic smoker. After the Chest X-ray they found a lesion in his lungs. Pain usually occurs during bending, lifting, and sometimes during chest expansion.
