Should I take my Doctors advise
I have been coughing for days and have a hard time sleeping because of it. I don't really have any other symptom like fever or headache or loss of appetite...just a runny nose. He gave me anti-biotics and a bronchodialator. I find the inhaler works well, but I'm relunctant to start the anti-biotics bacause I've read that bronchitis is usually caused by virus, not bacteria. I realize that he probably knows what he's talking about, and I have no medical experience what-so-ever, still, something is telling me I don't need the medicine. Plus, I want to be responsible about drug resistant illnesses caused by use of anti-biotics when they are not needed.
Should I get a second oppinion? Should I just take the darn stuff? Or should I just throw away the prescription and just wait and see what happens?
Answer:Yes, of course u should.
Doctors may treat bronchitis with antibiotics (if a bacterial infection is suspected), bronchodilators (to relieve breathlessness) and other treatments.
And bronchitis is usually caused by viruses OR bacteria and may last several days or weeks.
So u needn't worry much, just try to keep healthy and follow the doctor's insrtruction. He just wants to make u feel better, and I think he is getting along on the right track.
:) Hope u'll recover soon.
Do you smoke? If yes, that could be what's causing that. If you don't smoke, I suggest you listen to your doctor and take the meds.
I think the second opinion would be safest. Tell the next doctor how you feel about this.
Yes do what your doctor says.
