Shortness of breath sometimes, Scared for it to be a blood clot in the lungs

health advisory Hospital Diseases 2007-11-12 20:34:50

I have mild difficulty breathing. I feel that something is blocking my airways. I went to 2 docs and one said to go to the ER to get a Catscan. the other said i had no real symptoms of a pulmonary embolism. They both did a blood test to rule it out. it came back normal. My oxygen level is 99-100 but im totally freaking out. I also have anxiety. Please someone help me!

Answer:

Acute anxiety can cause shortness of breath.

Why would you suspect a pulmonary embolism? Are you overweight? Do you have high blood pressure, do you have any kind of circulation problems at all? How old are you?

If you pulse ox reading is 99 that means your blood gases are in line. In other words there is the proper oxygen levels in your blood.

I think maybe anxiety is getting the better of you. Try some relaxation techniquest and see your regular doctor.

the first doctor said to go get a catscan, so i think you should do that. its better to be safe than sorry.
Get the catscan, it's better to be safe then sorry. Try to get monthly checks on it. if it gets worse, conntact a docter or get another catscan.
What you're experiencing is called a panic attack. You might be feeling as if you're unable to get enough air into your lungs or that your lungs are closing up. Think of it this way: if you DID have a clot, you'd be dead by now. The doctors are right, you're ok. You just need something for your anxiety.
If it were a blood clot in your lung it would cause pain when you breathe. If it feels as you describe it could be something like asthma, bronchitis or an allergy which can also cause airway inflammation.
You should get it checked up on, just to be sure, although don't let it scare you, because it may just be anxiety, i get that too sometimes, it's kind of like being a hypochondriac(believing something is wrong with yourself, even though you're fine), you may just scare yourself thinking about it.
that is where your problem lies, in the anxiety, it causes shortness of breathe, a feeling of having something stuck in your throat, light headedness and fainting. check out the link.http://medicalreporter.health.org/tmr112...
