For the past couple of days I have been having pain under my left ribs, it doesnt hurt too much unless I touch it, then it feels worse. The Dr said he cant find anything and said it may have something to do with acid reflux he said I had Esophagitis. I just wanted to know what it could possibly be I do sleep on on my left side aswell. When I was taking Advil it seemed to help but the Dr said to take Tylenol instead because Advil can upset my stomach more than it already has been. My Boyfriend and I were wrestling around Sunday but I dont remember him touching anywhere near my ribs.

Answer:

There is a condition called Costochondritis,an inflammation of the cartilage of one or more ribs commonly on the left side around the second or third rib.Pain is intensified when changing the position of the ribs,coughing, bending over, sneezing.Best treatment is aspirin or ibuprofen(Advil) for the pain and inflammation,heating pad also helps.

This can cause pain when breathing as well.Because the cartilage that attaches the ribs to the breastbone is what is inflamed.Takes some time to heal.

you could have pulled it. i dunno about the edsophagitis, because it would be a more centrally located pain then a left sided pain. some people crack their ribs when they cough! depends on how well you take care of yourself and how much you put stress on your bones. yeah ibuprofen can make issues with your stomach, but not esophagitis! as long as you take it when needed, with at LEAST 8 ozs of water and stay upright for at least 30 mins you'll be ok! also no more then 2400 mg in 24 hours! otherwise your liver and kidneys will have something to say about it! if you touch it then it hurts, more then likely musculoskeletal. take it easy. but if it persists insist on a xray! just incase. but sprains take a few weeks, depending if you take it easy or not. listen to your body. it usually knows whats up.
