Possible Allergy to Alcohol but also some cough medicines Looking for advice please

Hi

Up unitl about 18mths ago I've never had a problem with drinking alcohol. But lately i get an almost instant red flush in patches on my face, particularly under my eyes, just under my chin and patches aboive each eyebrow. It can also sometimes effect my elbows and lower arms. It burns hot and gets very itchy.

It seems to happen most often with vodka, beer and wine. Even a sip of beer sets it off. I generally drink southern comfort and this is fine in weak amounts, but will set me off if its too strong.

But at other times I can drink and have no effects what so ever!! Its very confusing because i dont know when its going to happen.

It has also occured after taking a 10ml dose of cough medicine...

so basically i just dont get it and I'm not sure if its something I need to be going to my doctor about.

Does anyone have any ideas or know where i can find out any information?

thanks

Answer:

I have the same problem. Sometimes I get a crazy pain in both of my shoulders also.

I believe manufacturers are changing the natural fermentation process of alcohol to speed up the process using chemicals etc which is affecting us. I have been allergy tested and nothing came up.

I think it also could be the liver crying out when put under too much strain (hence the hot flushes).

I have found also by talking to people that hangovers are getting worse on less alchol consumption.

If you do find anything to help, i would be most interested.

It's possible to develop a sudden allergy to something you weren't allergic to before. A pharmacist I used to work with drank wine all the time, and one Sunday she had some wine with dinner and came in to work Monday morning covered in hives. She was allergic to the sulfites in the wine. I would definitely consult your doctor.
go see a doctor! it may not be an allergic reaction but maybe your stomach lining is going away from drinking and abuse . the irritation causes to much stomach acid to make the condition even worse ..don't be stupid ! very sincerely ,ray
Could be an allergic reaction, could be Celiac Disease, an inability to process gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley (and in many alchohols and medicines.) Could be a serious gastro problem. See an allergist and or a GI doc to rule out serious issues. Ask for a blood test for Celiac Disease. See the links below for more info.

Go to your doctor and see if you can get this one test where they poke these ode like things with tiny needles on them into your back that makes some type of juice come out that determines how allergic you are to whatever is in the pod thing.
