Pneumonia sorry this is kinda long
i was wondering because the left side of my chest has been bothering me recently, it bothers me to lay on it at night and i do have allergies (pollen/grass) and i have gotten sinus infections before. i was just wondering what other symptoms are there, my left side has been bothering me for like 2 weeks now, with my allergies only getting bad for a couple days this week. also, how much time i would have to miss from school, because i really dont want to get behind, i got behind from a week of vacation last quarter and all my grades dropped from A's to B's.
Answer:With all your nasal symptoms, it sounds more like you had a bout of the flu. The damage that the flu virus does to your upper respiratory tract can sometimes result in a prolonged cough. Make sure you are drinking a lot of water and taking your allergy medications. See your doctor again if you still feel badly in a few days. Be sure to present your symptoms, explain your concerns, and tell your doc about your anxiety. Your anxiety may be worsening your allergies. I hope this helps.
If you go to the doctor he will first ask your symptoms and if he thinks its pneumonia then he will order chest xrays. The xrays will then tell/show him if you do in fact have pmeumonia. You may be required to stay in the hospital if that is the case. While there they will give you medications to break up the fluid in your lungs as well as breathing treatments (depending on if they are needed or not)
It could be bronchitis-a severe case and that requires rest, antibiotics-which dont help but you'll get them anyway-and steroids (a weeks worth and not the kind that give you big muscles) if thats what you have you may only be out of school a few days.
I had it when I was five and was in the hospital 5 days and was fine. I get bronchitis at least once a year and it sucks but the sooner you get to the doctor the sooner you can start healing.
