Hey folks, i'm worried about my dad, he drinks almost everyday, i dont mean he gets wrecked everyday, but he has 4+ cans of beer everyday and has done for years, although at the weekends, he''' drink alot more, yesterday his face started to swell up in a huge rash, this morning his head was like half the size on top from swelling of the face, eyes like slits, is this a sign of liver damage from drinking too much ??
Answer:Sounds more like an allergic reaction to something. I'm not a doctor, though. I'd get him to a real doctor pretty quickly and get him checked out. Could be serious.
Get him to a hospital, and then take yourself to Alanon.
It could be, unfortunately, this happend to my uncle. Is his face really red? My uncle's face was red as well, he had a damaged liver and kidneys from the bottle, luckily this scared him enough to stop drinking. I hope your dad is ok.
It doesnt sound like liver damage to me, maybe he has eaten something and had a bad reaction.
He needs to see a doctor ASAP. Don't get scared and panic, do the right thing and break it to him calmy, but seriously.
My condolences on having an alcoholic as a parent - perhaps you'll learn to be a better person. As to the signs and symptoms he is showing - get him to a doctor; his airway may become compromised.
Sounds more like an allergic reaction to me. Something he ate, or something may have bit/ stung him overnight. You may want to check out the following link about alcohlic liver disease.
It is hard to say if this is liver damage, but he is drinking far to much on a very regular basis, which would suggest that he is irreversibly damaging his body in some way. Drinking this often on an every day basis would suggest that he cannot do without the drink now. Perhaps this could be tested out...would he agree to laying off of the drink if you suggested this to him. If he is willing to do this then you can watch for any improvements, and if there are then this would suggest that his body does have a problem with drink. If he is unwilling to try, then this may suggest that he knows he is unable to do without the drink for either psychological reasons, or he may know that he could get withdrawal symptoms. I hope this helps.
My dads the same he drinks day and night and is the biggest alcoholic I know, his face goes bright red and swells up as well but he's been drinking since he was a teenager and he's gonna be 60 this year, he will never give up. My mum has always said that he will die because of his addiction but he just wont listen he can't admit he has a problem. I don't know if that's a sign of liver damage but if you put your liver under that kinda stress it wouldn't suprise me.
sounds like an allergic reaction, take him to A/E to be checked out.
you know thats really hard to tell. first of all i dont think it is from his drinking. sounds to me he does need to slow down on his drinking. but it sounds to me like he need smore sleep . with the rash. well sounds like he might be alergic to something. try to get him to slow down on his drinking. get more sleep. if he doesnt look better before long i would encourage him to go to doctor and get a full work up. good luck with your father
yes it could be. I would definately recommend a check with his care provider. I would recommend a lab test called Liver Enzymes to see the state of his liver. Is his abdomen swollen as well?
Take him either to the ER or to a Physician, the swelling of the face is not listed as symptom of Liver damage. It may be good to get him aware that there are physical dangers to consuming Alcohol which is a toxic substance to the body. Sometimes it is difficult to convince them that they are in need of help, since they are addicted to Alcohol. If you get yourself into Al Anon, (help for Family Members of Alcoholics) then an intervention may be possible, in order to help your Dad . I wish you the best, and success in helping your Dad
I can't answer your question. But I just wanted to give you some advice. Your dad should take a thiamin supplement. Drinking can cause a thiamin deficiency and can lead to nerve damage, loss of short term memory and irritability.
Drinking beer can cause allergic reactions in some individuals. This is because of aecetomysis,i.e;yeast used to ferment the brew to make beer. There are known cases where people have been consuming beer for years but not showing any signs of allergy, and suddenly developing allergy thereafter. This is due to certain strains of yeast only.Taking a lot of beer adds up fat on your body which gets deposited in the form of glycogen. This glycogen is burnt up to release energy .Lack of exercise and regular consumption of beer can lead to deposits of this fat.The swelling might be a sign of serious kidney disorder.Possibly also liver.Heavy consumption of beer also leads to formation of kidney stones.Better check up with your physician and early.
I suspect this is an unrelated problem. You need to get him to seek medical advice.
