UAB rejected his plea for surgery.He has no money and tries to treat the sore himself. He has been a paraplegic since he was 18. He is 53. It will kill him if he does not get help. The sore is the size of a dinner plate and is at the end of his tail bone. He drags out of bed everyday,he tries so hard. He is also taking care of my mother, she is 87.

Is there anybody that can help him? Please.Please!

Margo, What state does your brother live in? Is he in the US? Almost every state has resources in place to help in cases such as this. I've spent my life working in the medical field and I understand exactly what your talking about. It's imperative that he get medical attention. The best thing you can do is pick up the phone and start calling your local health care agencies. Surely he has a physician? If he's on Medicaid or Medicare they will help with expenses. It sounds to me as if both of these people need further assistance.

Sometimes as family members we have to step in whether we're wanted or not and do what we have to do. You have to ask yourself if it's in his best interest and I think in this instance the answer is clear.

Try contacting your local chapter of Hospice. If they can't help, maybe they can steer you in the direction of someone who can.

If the situation is desperate , I hope you checked with all social sevices in yhour area for financial help or taken him to any state funded hospital, they are obliged to treat through the emergency room. If all that has failed, I will tell you a cheap treatment I saw work in Iowa years ago. A country doc packed the decubittus ulcer with "B & B" and the sore healed, I asked what it was he said, Boubon and betadine, do some checking on the ratio and mixture, but i saw it heal.good luck

I'm not sure what prognosis the doctors have given him, and I'm not sure what state you live in, but he does qualify for medicare, county and state insurance. His doctor and the case manager in the doctor's office can make that happen. Maybe he and your mother should consider going into a nursing home where more help is available for the both of them.

Where do you live? If you take him to the emergency room I think they have to treat him. Does he have medicaid that would pay for it? Maybe you could contact a local civic group that might know where you could get help.
