I took her to the doc for hives due to reaction from amoxicillin. They prescribed benedryl, at which case she is running a temp. Can i give her motrin with the benedryl?

Answer:

I am a nursing school student 2 years. If the doctor told you to give her benadryl then yes it is perfectly fine to give the child over the counter motrin with it...they are completely different types of medications. the benadryl is an antihistamine and the motrin is a pain reliever/fever reducer. The two together are fine. And do not give her claritin that is for hay fever and upper resp. allergies, and phenergan is only available by prescription. Benadryl actually decreasing nausea. benadryl+motrin is okay.

I wouldn't because of them have a sedative effect. It may overdose the child on something that would make him/her sleepy. Maybe alternate every 4-6 hours.

i wouldn't.

benadryl is pretty strong for 3yr olds to begin with and you should never mix drugs unless instructed by a doctor.

Lets figure out what the temp is from. Is it otitis media for which the amoxicillin is being given? Is the temp from that? I mean if the hives are under control and the temp is very high maybe the Dr needs to know? Maybe he will d/c the benedryl? So sorry its horrible when little ones are sick and then they bounce back fine and you have aged so much!

Benedryl can cause vomiting and fever don't give her anymore of it, claratyne(for during day) or phenerghan(at night) for allergic reactions, these will work within 20 minutes, they stop the redness and burning or itching of any rashes, it can be given with paracetamol for fever. you can get these in a liquid form ask pharmacy for it.

ask a pharmacist..they are experts on drugs. I would think tylenol would be safer to bring a temp down. Ibuprofen is sometimes linked to Steven Johnson's syndrome...

ummm , if you are not sure one medication with your child...

you should seriosly contact your childs doctor. just incase...

(you wouldnt want to do anything to harm your child and if it comes from a doctor... its sopposto be better) hope this helps.. hope she feels better..
