Your opinion on weight according to the person

health advisory Diet Diet 2007-11-11 21:05:46

I am 5'4 and 185lbs. according to many many charts I am obese. I did stumble apon a chart the other day that recommends weight according to height a frame size. Then I read that the "healthy" waist measurement for women is 32 in.

So although I weigh 185 I have a large frame. My waist is 32 1/2 inches. ( Honestly my ribs show through a little, I wouldn't expect that at my weight. ) I am wider in the hip/butt region (44 in) but pretty equally balanced through the shoulders (but I don't have a large chest).

Now my question is...should I really be that concerned about my "size"? I am a bundle full of contradictions, most people guess I'm closer to a size 9/10 rather than a 14/15. I'm just curious what you think.

Thanks!

Answer:

Because of your larger frame, you are probably not as overweight as the charts would suggest. Usually for your height, you should not weigh more than 145lb, but because of your larger frame, you may be able to weigh up to say, 150lb-160.

Your are fortunate to store more fat around your hips/thighs than your abdomen, which is considered more healthy and puts you at less risk of diabetes and heart disease. You have a low waist/hip ratio making you pear shaped. However, the risk increases when your waist measurement gets too much regardless of your waist/hip ratio. Women should not have a waist measurement of more than 32 inches.

You may want to lose some weight and see how you feel.
