Why do I weigh more even though I appear thinner and am the same height
A lot of my friends are the same age, height and body structure as me, except for some reason I weigh more but appear significantly thinner, and I was wondering if this could be attributed to bone mass, or if that has little relevance. If it is relevant, could it possibly be a result of having a lot of calcium during the "growing years?" Or does that just make your bones stronger...
Answer:A few possibilities:
Muscle weighs more than fat.
Bones weigh more than anything else in the body. Perhaps you have significantly higher bone density?
Your scales aren't calibrated to the same standards.
They must be bigger boned then you
You're probably small boned
muscle weighs more than fat, so perhaps it is muscle mass?
You could be incredibly skinny and still weigh more than you look like you should.
Muscle weighs more than fat, so if you work out, you could burn off excess body fat and build muscle, and actually gain weight, even though you look skinnier. Also, your bone density affects your weight. It's common sense -- the more your bones weigh, the more your body will weigh.
I wouldn't be too concerned about this. Just make sure you're eating enough healthy foods and getting regular exercise.
It could be that you have more muscle mass and less body fat than them, so you may appear slimmer, even though you are heavier than them. Are you quite athletic?
