Why do I get stitch when I am running

good luck

i definately know that starving yourself from lunch till 7 is not right, i do know that before any physical exercise you have to have about 3 hours gap after eating before doing any exercise.

may advice is to eat normally, and leave a couple of hours before running and drink alot of water, also, after running heavily for 10 minutes take a break for a few seconds and then continue

cut down on drinking if you do and stop smoking if you do.

breathing throught your mouth, makes the air go into your stomach, and it travels throught your body. it gets caught and makes you have a sharp pain in your side.
Some part of the muscle is deprived of oxygen so there is an anaerobic reaction causing the pain. Breathe deeply to get more oxygen into your bloodstream. Stretch. Stop smoking. As you get fitter the stitches will disappear.
My friend told me it was because I was breathing too shallow....

So i started to control my breathing (mostly by not breathing my inhaled breath straight out again!) and it appears to work!!

My Aunt used to tell me to (whilst standing) bring the opposite knee (bent) to the stitch up to my head....not very useful for the treadmill but if you run in the street this used to sometimes work- guess it stretches out the diaphragm!

Good luck! (oh and try running through it!!)

the main reason is anaerobic exercise which means that at some point during running you are not breathing properly. this can often happen to those who hold their breath to exercise their stomach muscles (tighten it) whilst running.
