If , instead of eating white rice for dinner I replace it with brown rice and have whole grain and whole wheat for replacement, without considering calories intake, will I still gain weight?
Answer:Eating "whole" foods instead of processed ones, tends to fill you up sooner and stay in your system longer so you eat less in general. A 1/2 cup of brown rice will fill you up as much as 1 full cup of mintue rice would etc.
As long as you aren't a super fast eater, the whole grains will keep you from putting on the extra pounds that processed and non fiber alternative versions will.
No matter what you eat, if you consume more energy (kCal) than you expend everyday, you will gain weight. If you burn more than you consume you will lose weight. It doesn't matter whether you eat less or exercise more it's all energy balance.
Assuming you are eating modest portions you should not gain weight. The whole wheat component helps you to feel fuller and more satisfied for a longer length of time than white pasta or bread will.
If you look at the ads on whole grain cereals, they claim you can loose 10 lbs in 2 weeks
Whole grain foods can raise your HDL
It is a good idea to switch to whole grains. As far a weight is concerned, a calorie is a calorie. You need to take in less calories per day than you use to lose weight.
Calories in and calories out determine weight gain. However, whole grain foods have a higher fiber content. Fiber keeps you full longer so you're not hungry an hour after you eat. White foods like white bread and white rice break down quickly and convert to sugar in your system. Whole grains are always a better choice.
