when training, say , in the gym, and your aim is to tone your body, which is more effective 4 sets of 25 or 10 sets of 10?

Answer:

For toning, the 10 sets of 10 would be better.

For gaining muscle mass, the 4 of 25 would be better.

The more you lift all together, the more you tear down ur muscles, and the BIGGER they get.


"Tone" is a very vague descriptor. Training higher reps with lighter weight will build muscle endurance. Working out with heavier weight and less reps will build muscle size and strength. Usually, low weight / high rep sets are 3-4 x 12-15. 4 x 25 is a bit excessive.
A few sets of 12 or so reps is appropriate, no matter what your goal is. Train as heavy as you can while still using good form. I know that your goal is to get toned--please don't worry that heavy weight training making you "too muscular." Unless you eat like a bodybuilder and take supplements, that won't happen.
