Which foods have hydrogenated oils in them
Can you help me list foods have have hydrogenated oils in them?
I recently learned these foods are the silent killer and clog your arteries. I need help thinking of them so I can clean my cabinets out and affect my shopping in the future!
Thanks! (Oh and please try to list foods other people haven't listed!)
Answer:Baked goods, like cookies, cakes, and crackers. Fried foods like chips, donuts, etc. can have it too. You just have to read the food labels. It will tell you if hydrogenated oils are in it. Shortening/Margarine is hydrogenated - so check for those ingredients too.
In general, all fats that are from plant sources are unsaturated. Fats from animals are generally saturated. Generally when people say "hydrogenated" they mean unsaturated that have been processed into saturated.
That being said, a lot of high fat processed foods contain these hydrogenated fat. Anything labelled as "trans" fat will be one of these deals. My organic chemistry professor said everyone is overreacting to the whole deal, but what's he know about biology? He's a chemist.
It's not just hydrogenated oils, it's monosodium glutamates (MSGs) that are the silent killer. MSG goes by many names, including aspartame, hydrogenated proteins and 'natural flavor'.
It is commonly found in:
-most canned soups of the US food industry like Campbell's (except the low sodium varieties)
